Double standard
CBS, MSNBC,
sponsors and board members would not jump to Don Imus'
defense. Instead, they caved in to the antics of Al Sharpton
and Jesse Jackson, who cause havoc around the country, then leave it to others
to handle the mess.
Don Imus is
not racist. He said something very offensive to the Rutgers
women's basketball team, who just happened to be black. He repeatedly said he
was sorry. CBS met with Sharpton and Jackson, then announced that Imus
was fired. That says it all. All this happened before Imus
appeared on his yearly telethon to raise money for children with cancer, SIDS,
etc. CBS and MSNBC should be ashamed of their quick decision.
America needs to
wake up. We have a double standard. Many politicians, journalists and media
personnel used Imus for their own advantage. As soon
as he was alone and needed support, they ran for cover. Now the music industry,
media and politicians all want a dialogue on racism, sexism and violence. Now I
ask, "Who is guilty by association?" Everyone is, but only Imus got fired.
Sorry Imus
got fired, but glad he finally started a dialogue that is 30 years too late.
