Module 2 Web Evaluation Activity
I think I would use the questions given in our textbook on p. 248. I would pose them to my students and then give them a variety of websites to look at and answer the questions for those sites as practice.
a. Who wrote the pages and is the author an expert in the field?
b. What does the author say is the purpose of the site?
c. When was the site created, updated, or last worked on?
d. Where does the information come from?
e. Why is the information useful?
For Copyright information review, I would send them to the link we were given under Copyright Issues- http://www.cyndislist.com/copyrite.htm - and have students use that page to answer a list of prepared questions. Their answers would then be used to make a brochure regarding copyright issues and/or website evaluation to be used with our district’s younger students. It would probably work best to bring the information down to the 5th-8th graders since they would understand the most.
