M4 Lesson and Rubric
Lesson Plan
I have my Biology or Human Anatomy Students do a Human Body System Project as a cooperative group. They need to conduct research online and create several parts of a project for me including a model, a presentation, and a research paper on a scientist who contributed to the study of the body system. I’ve included the Rubric I use for the research and hand-out that goes to the class. You may notice that the Word portion is minimal in its mention. I try to focus on the fact that they are doing research, not that they are using Word.
It is explained to students that they can create a brochure, newspaper, memo, short story, or any other application of Word they can think of to create a handout.

Find Overall Function of
the system |
The
overall function of the system is explained- Includes relation to at least 2
other systems |
The
overall main function of the system is well explained and understood-
Relation to 1 other system explained |
The
overall main function of the system is well explained. |
The main function of the system is not correct or well
explained. |
|
Find the organs or parts
of the body that work with that system and the function of each part |
All
organs that are found in the system are named and their major function explained |
The
organs that are found in the system are named and their major function
explained with the exception of 1 or 2 |
The
organs that are found in the system are named and their major function
explained with the exception of 3 or 4 |
5
or more of the system organs are not named or explained. |
|
Find how that system
contributes to the homeostasis of the body (you should know that term!!) |
The
system is described in terms of its use to the body in maintaining
homeostasis and the mechanisms on how this is accomplished are evident |
The
system is described in terms of its use to the body in maintaining
homeostasis but mechanisms of how this is accomplished are missing |
The
system is described but its use in maintaining homeostasis is unclear |
The
idea of homeostasis is ignored or not explained |
|
Find at least two diseases
or malfunctions related to that system, and the causes, effects, and possible
treatments of each |
2
diseases/malfunctions are named, their causes, effects explained, and possible
treatments described |
2
diseases/malfunctions are named, but either their causes, effects are not
explained, or possible treatments are not described |
1
disease/malfunction is named, its causes, effects explained, and possible
treatments described |
No
disease/malfunction is described or causes, effects, and treatments are
omitted |
|
Make a hand-out for the
class using Word |
Hand-out contains all pertinent information from research
form above |
Hand-out
is missing 2 –3 of the major components |
Hand-out
is missing 4-5 of the major components |
Hand-out
is missing more than 5 of the major components |
