The management of the Tuxedo Union Free School District is entrusted to a Board of Education consisting of seven members elected by local voters for three year terms and serves without renumeration. The Board regularly meets in the multi-purpose room of the George Grant Mason School at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Citizens are encouraged to communicate with the Board and are always welcomed at the meetings.

The Board of Education appoints a Superintendent of Schools to administer the programs of the district. The Superintendent's responsibilities include curriculum evaluation, staff development, budget preparation, and overall management of the district and its resources.

The Business Administrator shares responsibility with the Superintendent and the Board for all budgetary development, fiscal operations, operations and maintenance, food service, transportation and civil service.

Each of our two schools, George Grant Mason School and George F. Baker High School, has a principal who is responsible for the instructional program and coordinates and assists in providing additional leadership in the areas of curriculum and staff development.

The instructional personnel are recognized throughout the Hudson Valley and New York State as being leaders in the teaching professions. As the quality of education in any school district is directly dependent upon good teachers, Tuxedo prides itself in attracting and holding the very best. The district selection process involves careful screening and interviews with teams of administrators, teachers, and parents to insure hiring well-trained, knowledgeable, and caring applicants. Once hired, teachers continue their training through university programs and in-service courses in the area.

Teachers are encouraged to be involved with their students through overseeing extra-curricular activities such as coaching athletic teams, sponsoring clubs, and presenting musical and dramatic productions. Such involvement provides additional attention and support for the student body.

Every effort is made to provide the staff with the resources needed to allow them to practice exemplary teaching. The small, and optimal, size of the Tuxedo district allows teachers to closely monitor student progress and address concerns in a very timely manner.

The Board of Education desires and invites your input on school district activities and suggests that you attend any or all of the following Board meetings this year. Board meetings will be scheduled as per the below calendar unless it becomes necessary to change the Board dates due to unforeseen circumstances. All meetings are held in the GGM Multipurpose Room unless otherwise noted.

Budget Vote and Election of Board Member(s)

Are you registered to vote?
In order to participate in this year's Budget Vote and Board of Education Election, residents must be properly registered. Under New York State Law, qualified residents registered with Orange County Board of Elections for general elections are automatically registered for school elections. It is not necessary for such persons to register separately with school election officials in advance of the vote on May 19th.

What are the voter qualifications?
You must be a citizen of the United States. You must be eighteen years of age or older. You must be a resident of the district for thirty days before the date of the vote.

Where do you register and vote?
If not appropriately registered, then you may register with the Orange County Board of Elections or with the school district during normal business hours (8 am - 4 pm). Registration must be completed by May 14th in order to vote on May 19th. When registering with the school district, you will need to provide Income Tax Forms and your New York State Driver's License.

Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained at the Office of the District Clerk. The application must be received at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot will be picked up personally by the voter. The absentee ballot must be received by the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the election.

Voting will take place in the George Grant Mason Multipurpose Room from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Additional information is available by contacting 845-351-2296 x323.
