The management of the Tuxedo Union Free School District is entrusted to a Board of Education consisting of seven members elected by local voters for three year terms and serves without renumeration. The Board regularly meets in the multi-purpose room of the George Grant Mason School at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Citizens are encouraged to communicate with the Board and are always welcomed at the meetings.

The Board of Education appoints a Superintendent of Schools to administer the programs of the district. The Superintendent's responsibilities include curriculum evaluation, staff development, budget preparation, and overall management of the district and its resources.

The Business Administrator shares responsibility with the Superintendent and the Board for all budgetary development, fiscal operations, operations and maintenance, food service, transportation and civil service.

Each of our two schools, George Grant Mason School and George F. Baker High School, has a principal who is responsible for the instructional program and coordinates and assists in providing additional leadership in the areas of curriculum and staff development.

The instructional personnel are recognized throughout the Hudson Valley and New York State as being leaders in the teaching professions. As the quality of education in any school district is directly dependent upon good teachers, Tuxedo prides itself in attracting and holding the very best. The district selection process involves careful screening and interviews with teams of administrators, teachers, and parents to insure hiring well-trained, knowledgeable, and caring applicants. Once hired, teachers continue their training through university programs and in-service courses in the area.

Teachers are encouraged to be involved with their students through overseeing extra-curricular activities such as coaching athletic teams, sponsoring clubs, and presenting musical and dramatic productions. Such involvement provides additional attention and support for the student body.

Every effort is made to provide the staff with the resources needed to allow them to practice exemplary teaching. The small, and optimal, size of the Tuxedo district allows teachers to closely monitor student progress and address concerns in a very timely manner.
